Topic 4 Body expression in dance

Body language can be understood as the language of silence, the way in which we use our body to communicate.

In order to understand body language it is necessary to be able to define our own body, and here we find several points of view:

  • Body image (Qualitative): subjective perception of one’s own body.
  • Body schema (Quantitative): adaptation between bone structure and muscular tension.
  • Body awareness: Both previous concepts together

In order to have a body awareness that is faithful to the movements we want to do, it is important to have good proprioception.

Proprioception is the ability of our brain to know the exact position of all the parts of our body at any given moment. For this it is necessary to experiment with our body and practice, although there are exercises to improve it.
